In 2010, I attended the Creative Book Publishing program at Humber College in Toronto. It thrust me directly into the business side of publishing, and since then I've worked in the industry as an editor, a graphic designer, a typesetter for print, a publisher, and a sales associate at book shops as well as within a book publisher structure. All this in addition to having published 9 books and graphic novels in the traditional industry, and 6 in the self-publishing sphere, I've accrued a vast amount of knowledge on the ever-changing landscape of the book world--and I'd like to share that knowledge with you! This service is for booking 2 hours of one-on-one consultation where I walk you through the basics of the book publishing industry, specific to a project you have in mind to bring to market, either through traditional means or self publishing. We will cover topics like: - the differences between traditional publishing and self publishing - the costs, benefits, and challenges of each model - the nature of advances and royalties - the life span of a book - print versus e-publishing - the power of genre - best practices for submitting your manuscript to a publisher or agent - query letters, synopses, and pitch packages These sessions will take place by default over Zoom -- however, if you are local to Winnipeg and would like to do them in person, we can meet at my studio at 611-70 Arthur Street.
